Vande Mataram Controversy: Why Congress Sings Only 2 Stanzas?

1 min read

The Congress Working Committee has recently adopted a formal resolution regarding the national song, Vande Mataram, clarifying the party's stance on its recital. According to the newly passed resolution, party members and leaders will henceforth sing only the first two stanzas of the historical composition during official events and public gatherings. This decision has sparked fresh political debate and controversy across the country, as critics and political opponents question the rationale behind omitting the later verses. The Congress party maintains that singing the first two stanzas aligns with historical precedent and national consensus, aiming to uphold inclusivity and respect for all communities while honoring the historic significance of the freedom struggle anthem.

The Congress CWC has passed a resolution on Vande Mataram, stating that it will sing only two verses of the national anthem. Union Home Minister Amit Shah attacked the Congress party on the issue, saying the Congress Working Committee had taken an anti-national decision. He said, "Consistent with its 1937 resolution, the Congress decided to sing only two verses of Vande Mataram. I want to remind the country that by dividing Vande Mataram in 1937 to appease the Muslims, the Congress laid the foundation for the partition of the country."
