‘Dimagi Naxals’ More Dangerous Than The Guerrilla Army, UPA Told SC In 2013 | Capital TV

1 min read

In November 2013, the erstwhile UPA government submitted an affidavit to the Supreme Court stating that urban-based academicians and activists, often referred to as intellectual or ideological sympathizers of extremism, posed a greater threat than armed guerrilla fighters. According to the government's submission at the time, these individuals successfully controlled various mass organizations and intellectual fronts to further anti-state agendas from urban centers. The official stance highlighted how ideological backing and organized support networks in cities act as a crucial lifeline for extremist movements, operating stealthily compared to traditional armed combatants in forests and rural regions. This archival revelation brings fresh focus to ongoing discussions regarding the role of urban intellectuals in extremist networks and how successive administrations have evaluated internal security challenges across the country.

The erstwhile UPA government had in a counter-affidavit filed in Supreme Court in November 2013 said that academicians and activists in urban centres had come to control "mass organisations" organically linked to Maoists under the cover of human rights.
